Product Overview

The kpanlogo (PAHN-lo-go) drum is a peg drum developed around the time of independence in Ghana by the Ga people in and around the coastal Accra region. The drum is commonly named for the kpanlogo dance it was originally played for, but the proper name is Twileshi (CHWEE-lay-she). The conga-like shape and peg-tuned head make for a beautiful looking and great sounding instrument. The kpanlogo is traditional played with a relatively light hand technique, and is not meant to produce the volume and range of tones typical of the djembe or conga drums. Africa Heartwood Project kpanlogos are hand-carved by expert drum builders in Ghana, and are covered by our warranty, and feature: * individual tuning and inspection before shipping - comes to you ready to play * solid one-piece construction using Mansonia, a legally harvested tropical drum wood * deep carved Adinkra symbols on both sides, adorned with other flowing geometric designs * new antelope or calf skin, closely shaved to eliminate uncomfortable stubble and improve sound * bottom rim and bearing edge coated with wax to protect and seal the wood.

* After import from Africa, each instrument is cleaned, inspected, tuned, and played individually to check sound and quality.
* Solid one-piece construction using Mansonia, a legally harvested tropical drum wood.
* New antelope or calf skin, closely shaved to eliminate uncomfortable stubble and improve sound.
* Hand crafted in Africa by village cultural artisans supported by the non-profit Africa Heartwood Project.
