Our 14"x25" Paragon Heartwood Mali Pro Djembe is an oversize drum, suitably sized for an advanced drummer with larger hands or whose playing technique requires a larger playing surface. Each of our Mali djembes are crafted by expert carvers using specialty hardwoods, finished with top-rate skin and rope, always with the 3-top ring tuning system. Shells are selected from Hare, Lenke, Dugura, and Acajou, healthy and well seasoned. At proper tension these 14" djembes have a nice even wet/dry sound quality, with a strong bass, deep tones, and well-pitched slaps. Along with a money back guarantee, here is what this Mali djembe features: 13.75-14.5" OSD wood, 24-25" full height, 9-10" OSD base, 19-21 lbs. Inventory includes Hare, Lenke, Dugura, and Acajou hardwoods, solid one piece construction, uniform thickness, imported direct. Wood seasoned and handcarved in Mali, West Africa, treated inside and out with lots of shea butter and coconut oil. Thick Mali goat skin, wet shaved and hydrated with a bit of shea butter. 5mm braided rasta drum rope for the 28-30 pairs of vertical ropes, first row of tuning started (most will have brighter rasta rope, not the black mix rope). 4mm mix rasta color drum rope for top loops and bottom loops, double hitch loop pattern on bottom ring. Bright cloth used to wrap bottom and top rings, including flesh hoop to prevent rust damage to skin. Extra tuning rope included, wrapped around neck for storage. All 1/4" rings custom fitted very tight, keeps tension even. 3 top ring tuning systems locks in tension and makes tuning more efficient. Well shaped bearing edge, hand rounded on both edges for playing comfort, skin safety, and sound quality Simple geometric deep carved designs cover half to full base. After import from Africa, each instrument is cleaned, inspected, tuned, and played individually to check sound and quality.

Big Drum Sound!

Blown away by the Quality and Sound of this Drum by far one the best drum I have owned! Deep bass, crisp Tone and high slaps! Normally I settle for what is available at guitar center or sam ash but not this year! Invested in quality handcrafted drum and already Notice it is helping me improve my technic and rhythms!

Don't sleep on african Heartwood Project drums! Quality at its finest!

This drum is fantastic!! Super solid and amazingly built from artisan builders! I love that they are buying from villages in africa to sustain these artists Lives and families! Love everything about it. And the drum sounds wonderful! The bass out of the oversized drum is just lovely! All the tones are! And the carvings in the wood Are beautiful! Can’t say enough good things about this drum and the way they are helping the artists and their families that build them!!

Being a professional musician studying afro-cuban music, this drum was a dream come true. It is a Beautiful instrument hand constructed from a single piece of Lenke and thick Goat skin. The Bass is very resonant, tone is good, and loud high pitched slaps are easily achieved. The drum is big enough to be able to Separate these sounds from each other. I had looked at several djembes before selecting this one, and I am glad I did. I was looking for an instrument that was native to its roots. Andy was a pleasure to work with in selecting this instrument. His great work in the region will help preserve the artisans that make such a fine instrument available to the world.

this is my first personally-owned djembe and I was ecstatic upon its arrival. its sound is very powerful, allowing for a significant range of dynamic contrast. as expected, the utilization of real animal lends itself to the authentic quality of the resultant sound. It’s much more dense and heavier than I was expecting but that factor does not bother me at all. I am Exceptionally happy to be an owner.
