Alantaso and Krobidasiwakyi are rural villages in Ghana's Central Region in need of clean drinking water. Water-borne and water-based diseases are the primary cause of preventable illness and premature death in this village, with children being particularly vulnerable. The collaborative effort to install a bore hole with hand pump in each village will immediately improve the health of everyone in the village, even saving lives. In addition to health benefits, the water source will save women and children hundreds of hours a month in hauling water from streams and rivers, will increase the growing season of crops by 25% per year, and will provide a source of revenue that will be used to increase the quality of life in the village, including education, medical care, and access to technology. Your support is needed in order to assist these villages with the drilling of two bore holes, installation of hand water pumps, and educating village water committees on the maintenance and use of the pumps.
This project will cost about $10,000usd, and is scheduled for early spring, 2009, near the end of the dry season in Ghana. The Alantaso and Krobidasiwakyi villages have been working diligently to save their required portion of funds (5%), in order to contribute to their own wells.

Update: The bore hole project was successfully completed on June 13, 2009. All members of Alantaso and Krobidasiwakyi are now drinking clean water from the hand pumps in their own villages! They send their thanks to all who have participated in this wonderful endeavor. The funds required to pay for the pumps has fallen short, so your continued donations are kindly requested. When the remaining funds have been covered, overages will be saved to begin the next water project.
