This album highlights master drummer, Bolokada Conde, and the griot singers of Sankaran. Griots or Djelis are oral historians and serve as the cultural preserver in Malinka society. Griots are taught from birth to memorize long stories and histories of people, families and rulers. The historical account is usually sung and can be as long as two days.
