Each Mali djembe shell is true professional grade, carved of West African hardwoods, and imported direct. The 16" head size is nearly unheard from Mali, making it an extremely rare shell. The specialty hardwood, extra round bowl, and wider throat create a djembe sound to be envied - very loud, extremes of sound with super high slaps and very deep tones - not to mention the comfort of playing on such a big surface. The deep carved desigs are tasteful and geometric, covering all or part of the base. Wood is selected from legally harvested, seasoned Lenke, Acacia, Genou, Acajou (Dialla), or Dugara hard wood. The Mali djembe shells have very minimal ratio of minor touch-up repairs, and are scraped smooth and polished prior to export. Each is covered by our satisfaction guarantee, and features:
- Standard size bowl: ~13" top OSD wood; ~24" tall; ~9" base OSD wood, 16-22 lbs.
- Seasoned, solid wood treated with karite (shea butter) and adjusted to arid environment
- All specialty hardwoods, hand carved in Mali using ethical purchasing practices
- Dense wood is carved to even thickness throughout
- Bearing edge may or may not already have some rounding work
- Typically no ledge carved for bottom ring
- Bottom ring typically pre-installed on drum, 1/4" rebar
