These djembe shells are great examples of the fine craftsmanship and unique djembe shape found among the best carvers in Guinea. Each is carved by hand out of legal Acajou, Lenke, or Haré wood, all choice hardwoods especially suited to the djembe drum. The bowl is wide-mouth with straight taper from bearing edge to neck, then cutting sharply into the throat, with an aggressive taper down to the flared base. The Guinea djembe shells are all beautifully decorated, and each has a permanent rubber pad installed around the base. In addition to our satisfaction guarantee, each one features:
- Standard size bowl: ~13" top OSD wood; ~24" tall; ~10" base OSD wood, 16-22 lbs.
- Seasoned, solid wood treated with karite (shea butter) and adjusted to arid environment
- Some may come with light coat of wood sealant applied to the exterior surface
- All specialty hardwoods, hand carved in Guinea using ethical purchasing practices
- Dense wood is carved to even thickness throughout, with sharp, well defined seat and throat
- Chunky rubber tire installed permanently around base for wood protection and playing comfort
- Bearing edge may or may not already have some rounding work
- Ledge carved into neck for bottom ring, improves tuning and stability
