The Atumpan (ah-toom-PAHN) drums are royal drums from Ghana. Always played in pairs, these booming bass drums are still used to communicate messages from the residence of the chief to his community today. In Ghana the Atumpan are considered the original Talking Drums. Atumpan are also part of the Fontomfrom Ensemble of the Ashanti. All African Heartwood Project
Atumpan are covered by our warranty,
and feature:
- individual tuning and testing - comes to you ready to play
- solid one-piece construction using Mansonia, a legally harvested tropical
drum wood
- treated with coconut oil and shea butter, to hydrate and beautify wood, sealed on the outside to prevent cracking
- two metal rings used instead of one tree bough to improve tuning and reheading process
- adorned with three Adinkra symbols deep carved into each drum
- new cow skin, closely shaved to eliminate uncomfortable
stubble and improve sound
- Vudetsi stand and angled playing sticks included with each pair
