The djeli (or griot) is a key figure in the culture of the Mandingue. Their repertory must apply to any circumstances and songs of praise are their major ingredient. The dialogue between the voices of the djeli and the drum of Mamady illustrates this complex relationship which is at the same time musical, social and emotional.
